AutoSleep can display your sleep using two different modes: Sleep Stages (Apple Sleep app mode) or Sleep Analysis (AutoSleep app mode).
If using Sleep Stages mode, you may see this message if there is an issue:
If you normally use Sleep Stage mode but Apple Sleep Stage data arenโt available for a particular day, AutoSleep automatically switches that day to Sleep Analysis mode.
This can happen if Sleep Focus wasnโt turned on when you went to sleep, or wasnโt turned off when you woke up, preventing the expected Sleep Stage data from being written to Apple Health.
Rather than leaving you with missing sleep information, AutoSleep uses its own Sleep Analysis for that day so you can still see and analyse your sleep.
Sleep Stages uses sleep data recorded by the Apple Sleep app and saved to Apple Health. This includes stages such as REM, Core and Deep sleep.
Sleep Analysis is AutoSleepโs own sleep analysis mode. It uses your Apple Watch data to analyse your sleep without relying on Apple Sleep Stage data.
You can normally choose either mode and easily switch between them. Whichever mode you use, you still get all of AutoSleepโs insights, ratings and other sleep features.
Nothing changes permanently.
The automatic switch to Sleep Analysis applies only to the affected day. When you select another day, AutoSleep automatically returns to Sleep Stage mode.
Sometimes the Sleep Stage data may appear in Apple Health later.
If you can now see the sleep stages in Apple Health, tap the Sleep Session graph in AutoSleep, then use the switch above the graph to turn Sleep Stage mode back on for that day.
Make sure Sleep Focus is turned on when you go to sleep and turned off when you wake up.
If you use an Apple Sleep Schedule, your iPhone and Apple Watch can manage Sleep Focus automatically.
In short: If Apple Sleep Stage data aren't available, AutoSleep temporarily uses its own Sleep Analysis so you can still see useful sleep data. Your preferred Sleep Stage mode remains available for your other days.
